WMC’s Discussion & Support Groups

ALL OF WMC’S GROUPS ARE GOVERNED BY OUR COMMUNITY GUIDELINES. PLEASE READ THROUGH THEM SO THAT YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT BEFORE JOINING OUR COMMUNITY.

 

 WMC Playgroup

This group is an active playgroup and chatlist for moms and their kids in Southeast Texas. Our group is supportive of alternative parenting practices including but not limited to natural childbirth, out-of-hospital birth, breastfeeding and extended breastfeeding, cloth diapering, co-sleeping, elimination communication, holistic and herbal medicine, and other attachment parenting/crunchy/granola/natural parenting ideals. We encourage mothers of ANY parenting style to request membership, but warn that you will be exposed to alternative ideals. We encourage you to ask questions and involve yourself in dialogue when and where you might not understand some of the things that some of our mothers choose for their kids keeping in mind that respect is not optional in our group. We are open to your ideas and our group is a VERY diverse mix of many different ethnicities, cultures, religious convictions and economic situations. If you’re fine with all of that, request to join the group. We can’t wait to meet you!

WMC After School Playgroup

This group is an active playgroup and chat list more moms with older kids in Southeast Texas. As children grow up, the discussions surrounding parenting them change, and this is a great place for those discussions. Topics include: promoting open communication, gentle discipline, education options, nutrition, puberty, and more. While many of our mothers follow attachment parenting/crunchy/granola/natural parenting ideals, we encourage mothers of ANY parenting style to request membership, but warn that you will be exposed to alternative ideals. Beaumont Breastfeeding Coalition

The Beaumont Breastfeeding Coalition was founded in 2011 by WMC Founders Amy Jones & Heather Thomas. The BBC’s focus is peer support for breastfeeding mothers. The BBC is both an international discussion group on Facebook, and a local group that meets once per month on the 2nd Thursday at 10AM at the Theodore R. Johns Library at 4255 Fannett Road in Beaumont, TX. We also see individual mothers by appointment only at ‘Breastfeeding Cafe’ on Tuesday  mornings.  The Facebook and support meeting are open to women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or soon to be. We also welcome women who work in the lactation support profession in the Southeast Texas area. The Beaumont Breastfeeding Coalition is also interested in the social and political issues that breastfeeding families deal with in the Southeast Texas area.

WMC Working Moms

Working and raising a family is no easy task! We’ve heard the cry for support for working moms in our communities are are happy to have a space just for you! In addition to general discussion in the group, there will be meet-ups planned with your schedules in mind. Won’t you join us?

WMC Free Fitness Community

WMC strives to support the health and well being of families. We believe that healthy families create healthy communities. Movement is an important part of a healthy lifestyle – and we know how difficult it can be to carve out time and finances for fitness when you’re a mom. This group is for promoting free yoga & fitness resources in SETX, as well as the online resources that you love. This is also a place to celebrate healthy, positive body image and share inspiration. Keep it loving, keep it positive. 

WMC Mamas Buy-Sell-Trade

WMC Mamas BST is a space for buying, selling and trading personal items for the mamas of the WMC communities in Southeast Texas. We don’t allow MLM schemes, but we do promote ‘work at home mom’ products on WAHM Wednesdays! 

Southeast Texas Holistic Birth Options

This group is intended as a hub for discussion of holistic birth options in the greater Beaumont area of Southeast Texas. Please post questions and initiate conversations that are pertinent to birth options here.

SETX Parents of High Needs Children

If your baby fits the characteristics of a ‘high needs’ baby, then this is the group for you! One of the best things you can do when you have a high needs baby is to talk with other parents who understand what that means. Our discussion list is always open, which allows you to chat with moms who have been there, or who are still there, anytime you need support.

Beaumont Area Produce Cooperative

11703517_10153101626291404_3520935488265186994_oThis Facebook group is for coordinatingordering, invoicing and pickup of shares for the Beaumont Area Produce Cooperative. We put in a weekly order as a group with a produce wholesaler. To buy a share costs $25.00 per week. FYI, this is NOT all-organic produce, but we do try to order organic when and where it’s available and when the price is right on our wholesaler’s organic offerings.

 WMC Pregnancy & Infant Loss Support

The loss of a pregnancy or a child is incredibly heartbreaking. Many of the mothers in our community have known this pain. This is a safe space for you to work through the stages of grief, and find healing and peace among your sisters.

WMC Self-Care Support

This is a closed discussion group for women in the Southeast Texas/Greater Beaumont area who are dealing with or have dealt with mood disorders or mental health issues. In addition to the chat list, there is a ‘Self-Care Chat’ meeting every month. Mental health issues are REAL and talking about them is often the first step to wellness. We welcome you and we support you in this motherhood journey. This is a safe space.
